"ARC FLASH AND ELECTRICAL SAFTY TRAINING CLASS"
Our Last Class
Are Your Employees Safe From an Arc Flash Incident? Unfortunately, arc flash incidents are not that rare. According to Chicago based research firm CapSchell, between five and 10 arc flash explosions occur in electrical equipment per day, resulting in one to two deaths and many burn victims. The cost of treatment for the injured can exceed $1 million per case, not including litigation costs, fines, and equipment replacement costs. Arc flashes occur when electric current flows between two or more separated energized conducting surfaces. The first step in their prevention is a knowledgeable
workforce. The National Fire Protection Agency has issued NFPA 70E, the most complete standard available that addresses employee safety in the workplace. The standard provides engineering based requirements for
protecting employees from these hazards.
How ATN Can Help Make Your Facility Safer:
ATN provides both fundamental and advanced training in the NFPA 70E standard. In addition,
we can conduct an Arc Flash Hazard Gap Analysis of your facility to help better protect your employees.
NFPA 70E – Fundamentals Training Course (4 hours)
What You Will Learn: Employees will understand the purpose of the standard and why it is important from OSHA’s perspective. Topics addressed include: basic electrical principles and safety, general electrical hazards, OSHA regulations, LOTO principles, electrically safe work conditions, energized electrical work permits, and safety program requirements. Also includes a discussion of electrical arcs and their associated hazards. Presents an overview of shock boundaries and the arc flash hazard boundary.
Who Should Attend: Anyone working near energized electrical equipment, employees authorized to perform LOTO, safety committees, safety managers and coordinators, electrical and mechanical maintenance personnel, production and operations personnel.
NFPA 70E – In-Depth Training Course (8 hours)
What You Will Learn: In addition to the fundamentals training, a demonstration of all PPE will be provided. Employees will understand when to use PPE, how to use it, and how to maintain the equipment properly. Topics addressed include: installation safety and maintenance safety, engineering controls that may reduce arc flash hazards, example calculations, one-line diagrams, and device coordination. PPE matrix and table 130.7(C)(11) for use with incident energy calculations will also be discussed.
Who Should Attend: Anyone involved in creating or using safe work procedures, safety managers, and coordinators, safety committees, electrical and mechanical maintenance personnel, production and operations personnel, engineers, designers, and installers.
